Couch pillows are a great way to make any room feel cozy. You can just toss a few of them onto the couch and some onto the floor for a nice, warm feeling. Couch pillows on the bedroom floor will make the room feel more inviting and casual, while pillows on the couch in the living room will give the room the feel of a nice warm gathering place.

In addition to adding a level of coziness to a room, couch pillows are also a great way to spice up a boring design. You can find some nice decorative pillows to add to your room, or you can simply opt to change the color schemes of your pillow cases. Many an interior designer could swear by redecorating simply by changing pillow cases on couch pillows, in a scheme matching the draperies or other fabric in the room, and having the room look entirely different.

What things should you consider when looking to buy or replace couch pillows?

1. How big do you want them to be? A key guideline would be to consider the feel you want in the room in question. Bigger pillows tend to give a more playful look, while smaller ones are viewed as more formal, especially the thinner ones that are more stiff-looking. If you want a playful and cozy feel, you can opt for large fluffy pillows, and possibly even leave a few lying around on a rug on the floor or in a bay area.
2. How thick do you want the pillows to be? This consideration would be affected by the usage you intend for the pillows and the room in itself. If you are buying couch pillows for a bay area in a bedroom, you will likely enjoy thick, fluffy pillows to prop yourself up, such as when you feel like relaxing by the window with a nice thick novel. If you intend to buy the pillows for a living room you hardly use except for formal guest-entertaining, you may not have to get thick pillows, as a stiff one will do for decorative purposes. However, if your living room or den is where the family regularly gathers for watching TV or reading books, you may want your couch pillows to be thick and fluffy for propping your head or legs up comfortably.
3. What color do you want your couch pillows to be? The good thing about couch pillows is that you can very easily change how they look simply by changing the pillow cases. But at first purchase, you may want to buy one in the color scheme you already want, or possibly, in a neutral earth color, like browns and greens. This way, it becomes easy for you to mix and match. A good way to think of it would be this: you can buy the basic pillows in a neutral color, and add a few accent pieces in a bolder color like red or blue, depending on the feel you want your room to have.
4. What maintenance are you able to give your pillows? This will play into the kind of fabric you can get the pillows in. If you are a perfectionist when it comes to cleaning and do not mind vacuuming and dusting everyday, you can possibly buy just about any fabric of pillow you want. But if you are relatively busy and can only do a regular fluffing once a week or even less frequently than that, consider pillows with less furry textures, as these would be easier to maintain.

If you have never had the chance to use couch pillows for decorative purposes, you will likely find it to be a challenging but fun pursuit. Feel free to mix it up a little, and remember, as long as you are having fun, chances are, your house guests will also warm up to the place you are spicing up. Finding pieces that you are comfortable with and that you can put to good use will always outweigh decorative goals, but if you can find ways to reach a balance between these two purposes anyway, you will definitely find a great use for your money.
